The win improved Carmona’s record to 10-7, a year after Carmona went 5-12 and, at one point, was banished to the lowest levels of the Indians’ minor league system. Under new manager Manny Acta and new pitching coach Tim Belcher, Carmona has a had a major comeback. The biggest reason for Carmona’s turnaround is his improved control. After averaging five walks per nine innings in each of the previous two seasons, Carmona’s control has been much better this season. This year he is averaging 3.5 walks per nine innings.
